CMSD Capstone

Hi, my name is Hanna and I am a FPB senior.  This semester I am doing my capstone at the Cleveland Municipal School District (CMSD). We are working with the Prentiss Grant to take the Body Mass Index (BMI: height and weights) of kindergarten and 3rd graders all over the city; covering approximately 70+ K-8 schools.  At the end of the semester we will send home the health information we collected and calculated to the children's parents.
We screen once or twice a week, doing four or six schools each screening day.  We work with case sophomores, juniors and MN students, and Ursuline seniors.  Other days we prepare for screenings and work with the data in office. We also volunteered on Case for Community day at the Free Health Screening Clinic, and did a day shadowing a CMSD school nurse at Euclid Park.
We seem to have good days and bad days when it comes screenings.  The biggest factors are: good teachers v. bad teachers, the students' behavior, name tags on kindergarteners, and shoelaces v. slip on shoes. We have had cute kindergarteners with name tags, and menaces that won't tell you their names.  We are a Case BMI machine.  Us seniors oversee and direct traffic while our super efficient juniors are at their stations.
